Discover Caño Cristales

Early in the morning, meet with a representative at Bogotá’s El Dorado Airport; the meeting time is 05:00. Flight from Bogotá to La Macarena (approximately 1-hour flight / ticket included). Upon arrival in La Macarena, you will be greeted by guides and receive an orientation talk from the local environmental agencies (National Parks and Cormacarena). Then, transfer to the corresponding hotel, where you will be assigned a room to change clothes and store luggage. Afterward, depart for a visit to the Caño Cristalitos lookout, designated by environmental authorities, where we will have our first encounter with nature and the crystal-clear waters of the area. Lunch will be provided during the activity, and after finishing, we will return to the town of La Macarena following the same protocol as the departure. Check-in at the hotel, dinner, and overnight accommodation.

Notes: The alternate site to visit will be assigned by local authorities depending on the load capacity, physical conditions of the travelers, and will be one of the following locations: (Caño Cristalitos, Caño Piedra, El Mirador, or Río Bajo Lozada).

Breakfast. Departure in the morning according to the schedule provided by environmental authorities. The tour will begin with a 20-minute boat ride along the Guayabero River, enjoying the landscape. Once you reach the disembarkation point, a 4x4 vehicle will transport you for about 20 minutes to the Cajuche Spring along a dirt road surrounded by exotic vegetation. Then, a hike will begin along one of the trails previously designated by environmental authorities based on the permit, load capacity, and physical conditions of the visitors. The trail will follow the Caño Cristales, a magical and unique place in the world where nature showcases its incredible beauty in the so-called "River of Five Colors," a phenomenon resulting from the clear and pure waters of the river that reveal various colors due to the aquatic plants that bloom during a specific time of year (June to November). During the tour, a place and time will be set aside for a typical lunch, which will be provided to each visitor at the start of the day wrapped in banana leaves (like a picnic). Finally, return from Caño Cristales to La Macarena with the same protocol as the outward journey. In the evening, there will be a cultural exchange event at the traditional "Parrandon Llanero," where a folkloric and gastronomic show from the region will be enjoyed. Overnight accommodation.

Notes: Authorities only allow one trail to be visited per day. The trails are natural, unmarked, and during the hike, visitors will be able to appreciate different locations formed by the river and within it. Depending on the trail, there will be bathing areas, observation points to appreciate the five colors of the river, crystal-clear water areas, waterfalls, and their exuberant water drops.

Breakfast. In the morning, depart for Caño Cristales, taking the same boat and vehicle routes as on Day 2. Once you reach Caño Cristales, a different trail will be taken, offering new natural settings, which will be assigned in advance by environmental authorities based on the granted permit, load capacity, and visitors' physical conditions. At the agreed time, return to La Macarena following the same protocol as the outward journey. Time for lunch in the town and transfer to the airport to take a flight to Bogotá between 12:00 and 17:00 hrs. Arrival in Bogotá and end of services.

Notes:

• Different locations are visited each day; authorities never allow the same trail to be visited twice.

• If traveling on a holiday weekend (*Check holiday dates in general notes), on this last day, Caño Cristales cannot be visited due to environmental regulations, and one of the alternate sites will be visited instead.

• Flights for international connections should not be scheduled on this day, as there is no fixed departure time from La Macarena.
