Located on the delta of the Magdalena river, Colombia's fourth-largest city is a vibrant mixture full of life, color, music, and joy. Along mangroves and the Caribbean Sea, Barranquilla is famous for its Carnaval, the country's biggest street party, and the heart of an invaluable cultural heritage.
DAY 1 Welcome to Barranquilla
It's your first day in Barranquilla! We will pick you up at the airport to take you to the hotel of your choice. Familiarize yourself with a beautiful Caribbean landscape, the birthplace of pop goddess Shakira and beloved actress Sofia Vergara. Remember that all your accommodation is included in this tour, so you don't have to worry about paying for anything when you arrive.
DAY 2 Caribbean heritage and carnival vibes
After breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel. We will start our tour in the El Prado neighborhood for a close-up of Barranquilla's history and culture. Considered one of the most exclusive and elegant areas of the city, with beautiful tree-lined streets, stunning mansions, and historical buildings of colonial and republican style, you will admire the splendor of the 20s and 30s. We will continue towards the downtown area, where we will find the Fundadores de la Aviación Parque (Aviation Founders Park) and the Metropolitan Cathedral, precious landmarks of Barranquilla.
Then we will visit the Barranquilla Carnival Museum, an exposition that aims to preserve the carnival's heritage. Here you can find an interactive and educational experience that exhibits costumes, masks, musical instruments, and audiovisual work that allow you to feel the Carnival like you were in the middle of the celebration. The tour continues at the Edgar Renteria stadium, an iconic sports venue. Then we will find the monuments to the railway history of the city, such as the Montoya Station, the streetcar station, and the road intendancy, evidence of the relevance that these transports used to have in the industry development of Barranquilla.
DAY 3 Culture and tradition in the hands of expert artisans
After breakfast, we will pick you up at your hotel. This day we will make a trip to Galapa, home of the artisans who create the emblematic costumes and masks of the Barranquilla Carnival. This tradition is an inheritance of the African culture that became relevant on the Colombian Caribbean coast after European colonization. Its distinctive features are the original designs based on typical animals and the vibrant colors of the Colombian fauna.
The artisan workshops in Galapa are an important part of the local culture and economy. They offer visitors the opportunity to learn about the techniques and traditions used in the production of Caribbean handicrafts. There are also carpentry workshops, where artisans produce a wide variety of wooden objects, from furniture to kitchen utensils. In these workshops, artisans invite tourists to participate in the making process and use traditional carpentry techniques to cut and shape the wood. After finishing our tour, we will take you back to your hotel.
DAY 4 See you soon, Barranquilla
Say goodbye to a vibrant city proud to be the home of costeño (people from the coast) culture. We will take you from your hotel to the airport so you can continue your trip to your next destination. We hope you have enjoyed this tropical metropolis and look forward to seeing you soon.
